Go online — where’s that?

Ah, all the newfangled technologies… There was a time, not so long ago, when mail was simply mail and you didn’t have to scratch your head about snail-mail and email. Or, when you didn’t have to know anything about mp3 files and what they have to do with music.

Please don’t get me wrong — I think it’s perfectly o.k. if somebody doesn’t want to learn how to use a computer. I have an aunt in Italy, and the only way to communicate with her is via telephone and airmail. But when it comes to a presidential candidate, I find it somewhat disturbing that Senator John McCain can cheerfully proclaim that he’s learning to get online: “I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself”.

Steep learning curve, no doubt.
