Sustainable living spaces

cont2.jpgSome of Chris Jordan’s photographs (go to the “Intolerable Beauty” series, scroll down to the pictures of a container yard in Seattle) reminded me of a website I found a while ago: Container City (TM). Shipping containers are being linked together as modules to form living spaces, offices, studios, youth centers etc. that are affordable, environmentally friendly, and fast to build.

Plus, they look pretty and colorful. Here in New Mexico there’s an abundance of mobile homes. By and large, they’re ugly eyesores. I like the idea of being able to pick up one’s abode and move — kind of like a snail — and here’s a way to do this and add a bit of beauty as well. Let’s hope container living will catch on.

What a great idea. I had considered them for storage sheds, but one could certainly insulate them and live in them. Thanks for the link.

i love cargo communities. very funky! it’s a shame the concept hasn’t returned to the sea yet in the form of a cargo cruise liner. thanks for the inspiration.
